Summary: Great little music recorder using built in mic. 2010-08-15
Comment: I play in a bluegrass band and have only used the recorder a couple of times. The first time I used it I plugged it into the sound board at the restaurant where we played. The results were mixed, and I don't know why some songs were better than others and one channel was considerably stronger than the other. What concerned me most was there was very little bass picked up on the recording, but plenty of bass on the house speakers. The next time I used it I recorded a jam session outside. The results were surprisingly good. It picked up all vocals and instruments including the bass very well and if more consideration were given to player and singer placement around the recorder it would have been even better. I'll try it next week at practice and I expect it to do a good job in that environment.

Comment: This is a very nice recorder, and a definite upgrade from an older and less expensive model I have had for several years. The only problem I am having is that I specifically bought the LS 10 to record client telephone consultations and there are some problems with recording calls. I bought a Radio Shack adapter to work between the telephone and the LS 10, but there was a voltage feedback noise that came through on the recording. Olympus tech service advised me to stop using the Radio Shack adapter as it could damage the LS 10. Their solution was to sell me a passive device called a TP7 which is an annoying ear plug that you wear in your ear between the phone handset and your ear. This is not comfortable and you cannot switch ears without changing the earpiece too. So although I like the recorder, I would advise looking for a different product if you want to record telephone calls.

Summary: The Best One Ever! 2010-07-13
Comment: This Olympus LS-10 has served me well for a couple years. The battery life is excellent (even with rechargables.) The recording quality is great with zoom-ability microphone and still great with lapel mic. The size is perfect. The weight shows the great quality of the construction and design (very dense.) I have no complaints! One of three was just stolen so I ordered a new LS-11.
It has drag-and-drop support, which is extremely convenient.
It can record hq mp3.
It has pretty good capacity (2GB).
