Sony ICD-PX820D 2GB Digital Voice Recorder with Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 + Accessory Kit

I bought this product for my husband who is returning to school. The idea is to record his lectures then have the computer transcribe the lecture into text. The voice recorder is fairly user friendly as long as you read the manual. The Dragon software was a lttle more complicated but we got it working. Our first test was to record audio while holding the recorder. This worked beautifully, the sound was clear and the audio transcribed perfectly. We were very excited!

Then we tested it by placing the recorder 3-5 feet away from the speaker as it would likely be in a lecture hall. Again the audio recording was perfect but the transcription was a bunch of gobble-de-gook--nothing close to what was said. Now we are not happy.

We tried several other scenarios but found the only time the transcription worked well was when the recorder was held by the speaker. We are not sure why the transcriber is not recognizing the audio from further distances and have not...Read more

Do not buy this product with Dragon Natural Speak, the sony digital recorder is great but you will have problems with the Dragon software, sony is no help and dragon speak will not help you because it came with the sony. My advice buy the digital recorder without the software.
