2 XLR inputs, with a single stereo input and the Zooms inbuilt stereo mikes.
You can record up to 4 channels simultaneously (2 channels from the zoom mikes & 2 from stereo input or XLRs).
Easy to hook up to your computer and download the sound files, or use as an audio device.
Can record to WAV or MP3 at various high quality bit-rates.
Can run for several hours off 2 normal sized batteries.
The included kit has everything you'll need to use the Zoom effectively, the only additional accessories I'd recommend are a deadcat windsock & a mini tabletop tripod to attach the zoom to.

Comment: I got this thing so I could record some guitar music, in case I came up with something new when I wasn't listening and wanted to recreate it. It's intuitive right out of the box, and looks like a Star Trek robot perched up on its little tripod. The package is complete, and when compared to other vendors, the best price I found out there. It's like a little hand held recording studio, and will take many hours of dinkering to take advantage of all the features.

I've tried a few of the port-dig recorders and this one is the best of the group. Of course the group is a little weak if you're looking for great sound. Some nice highs and lows (comparatively) but recording good enough for a demo, no.

Comment: The zoom h4n blew away my expectations. Not only is it an excellent portable sound recorder with a great sounding stereo mic built-in, it can also be used as an interface for recording directly into your PC in programs such as Acid Pro, Vegas Pro, and the bundled Cubase LE. Also included but not expected are a guitar tuner and several guitar amp models so you can plug your guitar straight into the zoom and record with different sounds.
The only negative about this device is the very long boot time (30+ seconds?). I think Windows 7 boots faster than that. Sometimes I hear something that I want to record, but if it isn't already turned on then I'm probably going to miss it. Interestingly, it takes only a few seconds to turn on when you plug it into a PC using the USB cable.
